619 – Naked branches

ISO 400, 100mm, f/7.1, 1/100 sec

I remember when I saw my first madrona tree. We had just moved to the Pacific Northwest. The red trunk with branches full of silvery leaves was beautiful. It is a native to the coast, so finding one in the mountains was a pleasant surprise.

It’s claim to fame is the bark that peels away leaving a nearly naked tree.
