Moonlit rock

Haystack Rock, Cape Kiwanda

Day 36, 2012 This was my last photo of the evening on Saturday, the one I really wanted. It had been dark for about 30 minutes and it was nearly pitch black except for a little light just above the horizon.

A friend and I were talking just a few weeks ago about how hard Haystack Rock is to photograph. The face of it is almost always in shadow and it is impossible to get any detail and still maintain a sky. The moon was about three days from a full moon but still cast enough light with a long exposure. When the first one popped up on the back of the camera, I was thrilled.
