Celebration of the heart

Fawn greyhound

He is our boy, we flew him home straight from the track in Florida. He was probably one of the best dogs… ever.

Today, we said good-bye. With a heavy heart and tears streaming down our faces we said good-bye to our boy Moose.

It wasn’t an easy call to make, but we promise each and every pet that we bring into our lives that their life would always be about quality, not quantity.

On Monday we knew that our time together with Moose was growing shorter. I wanted a few really good photos of him. Taking him out to the back yard wasn’t going to happen, so I set up the lighting in our bedroom where he would be the most comfortable. I wanted pictures of his ears that went this way and that way. I wanted pictures of his bright brown eyes, pictures of his paws and pictures of him laying on his side and lifting his head looking up like he did so many times.

I will miss his kisses tonight and tomorrow. I will miss his groans of pleasure when I rubbed his ears just right. And I took 100 photos so that we will be able to celebrate him forever in our hearts.

  • Terri Ellen - What a beautiful memory of Moose! Something everyone should have of their loved ones before they have to leave us.ReplyCancel

  • Fred Molesworth - Just like your children, your pets should be photographed throughout their life, and especially take the time to have them photographed with YOU – whom they loved so much, and to whom they were so faithful.ReplyCancel

  • Sue Muir - So sorry, Terri. The greatest gift is the hardest to give.ReplyCancel

  • Janice Straight - So sorry Terri. I echo the words of Sue Muir. There is never anything easy to say when it is time for our fur babies to cross over. They give us so much and if all we can give them is the dignity to have no more pain and live the best life then that is all we can do. You and your spouse are so amazing at home much you give of yourselves to these wonderful creatures… (((((Terri and family)))).ReplyCancel

  • Carrie Noar - What a beautiful way to remember him!

I am so sorry for your loss! I know it’s never easy to let them go, even when we know it’s the best, right thing to do. He always seemed like such a character!ReplyCancel

  • Jennifer Coffey Wheeler - So sorry for your loss. Lovely that you were able to capture some photos in the end to remember Moose. He was beautiful. I know what it’s like loosing them it never gets easier. But, to know that you gave him the best life you could.ReplyCancel
