I took Flo to see a cardiologist today at Oregon State University Veterinary School. I have to say I was very impressed with both the staff and the facility.
We started her on digoxin last night and she seemed a little better this morning, I think she would have eaten breakfast if she could have had it.
Her heart rate was down from the 300s to about 220, still high, but much better. The clinic did another EKG and an echocardiagram. She has been diagnosed with degenerative valve disease which is both incurable and progressive but we hope to maintain her quality of life with a handful of heart medications.
I know in my heart that Flo is getting the best medical care we can give her and we all want her to have a good quality of life. I’ve said it a million times before, but oh how I love our vet and the cardiologist is only a phone call and an hours drive away.
Flo will be 11 in September, she’s really not an old lady yet, but she’s not a spring chicken either.
One day at a time, that’s how we roll.
