Today, on the biggest shopping day of the year we loaded my camera in the car and went up to the greyhound kennel outside of Portland to photograph the new dogs in the Oregon Greyhound Adoption kennel.
As always, it was one of the best days ever. I love meeting the new greyhounds and from the first minute I begin meeting them, I chant to myself, no, I am not bringing one home.
Nope, I have never met a greyhound I didn’t love.
This beautiful little fawn is Zeta. She is a youngster, born in June 2014, she is just shy of 18 months old, a baby for all practical purposes.
I don’t think I have ever seen so many fawn dogs in the kennel at once, but this time they received several.
I still remember the first time I met a fawn greyhound and it was love at first sight. Her name was Uno and she looked liked a deer with her long legs that went forever and her soft brown eyes.
This strapping young man is sporting a 5 o’clock shadow oh so well. He’s another youngster, only 2.5 years old.
All of the dogs were really wonderful.
They have all written their wish lists. Top of the list is a forever home with all the trimmings. Things like unconditional love, soft beds, good food, the occasional treat, gentle walks and of course, a stuffed toy or two or three or four.
They call these guys the 45 mph couch potatoes for good reason. They can run 45 mph just to get to the couch to hold it down and warm it up.
If you have ever thought of adopting a greyhound, the new hounds are wonderful. I should have all of their photos up on the Oregon Greyhound Adoption website tomorrow. Take a look, ponder the possibilities and send in an application.
