As a pet photographer, I owe my success to those who cherish the special bond we have with our furry companions. The joy and love that pets bring into our lives are immeasurable, making our world richer.
My first introduction to rescue and adoption
His name was Fonzi and he was a beautiful black greyhound. Fonzi opened up a world I never knew existed the very minute we adopted him. We volunteered in greyhound adoption. We fostered many greyhounds and we foster/failed many greyhounds over the years. We adopted the shy dogs and we adopted the senior greyhounds. Every greyhound we adopted was perfect.
Yet, not all animals are as fortunate as our beloved pets. Many find themselves lost, abandoned, or in need of medical care and shelter.
Animal rescue organizations play a crucial role in providing a lifeline for these vulnerable animals and their owners. They offer essential services like medical care, spaying/neutering, and behavioral training to ensure a healthy future. Above all, they work tirelessly to find forever homes where these animals can thrive and be loved.
Greyhound adoption kick-started my love for pet photography
Photographing foster dogs in the backyard was the best. I spent hours with the foster greyhounds and my camera. I tried different angles and backgrounds, it's the greyhounds that helped develop my style.
At Terri Jacobson Photography, supporting animal rescue is more than just a passion – it's a way of life. Through photo fundraisers like the Pooch Playoffs fundraiser benefiting Born Again Pit Bull Rescue, we aim to keep dogs out of shelters and provide vital support to local communities. Last year Terri Jacobson Photography donated $2,100 to BAPBR from Pooch Playoffs.
Additionally, we've collaborated with Little Critters Rescue to create The Paw'd Hatter calendar to benefit dogs in need of medical care and find them loving homes. Last year Little Critters Rescue made over $7,000.
By building a stronger community through animal rescue efforts, we create a more compassionate society where everyone looks out for one another.
Good photography gets animals adopted
Photographing the foster dogs taught me a lot about photographing animals and now I offer my photographic services free of charge for all dogs and cats available for adoption.
Studies have shown that adoptable dogs that have beautiful photos have a better chance in finding their forever family. How Photos Are Important to Pet Adoption: A Study
I had 8 of these littles in the studio for their adoption portraits. Within one week of taking their portraits, four of them had meet 'n' greets scheduled.
Everyone can make a difference
You too can make a difference by donating, volunteering, spreading awareness about animal rescue on social media, or supporting businesses that back this cause. Together, we can ensure that every pet finds a home filled with love and care - just like yours.
Join us in making the world a better place for all animals! Keep spreading the word and advocating for animal shelters and rescues. Together we can show the world the true power of compassion.
